Trees, 4–20 m. Stems: (pendulous), branches somewhat brittle at base. Leaves: stipules on late ones and vigorous shoots minute rudiments; petiole not glandular, or with spherical glands or lobes distally; largest medial blade hemiamphistomatous, abaxial surface glaucous; juvenile blade glabrous, puberulent, or long-silky, hairs white. Pistillate floral bracts persistent after flowering. Staminate flowers: stamens 2; anthers (dry), 0.4–0.5 mm. Pistillate flowers: adaxial nectary longer than stipe; stipe 0–0.2 mm; ovary glabrous.

Distribution

Eurasia, introduced also in Mexico, South America.

Discussion

Species 17 (1 in the flora).
