Plants non stoloniferous. Cauline leaves 6.3–11.5 × 0.8–2.7 cm. Peduncles thick; bracts linear to linear-oblanceolate or subulate, 2–22 mm. Phyllaries linear-oblong; outer 1–2.2 × 0.2–0.6(–1) mm; inner(1.6–)2.2–3 × 0.6–0.7(–1)mm. 2n = 18.
Phenology: Flowering Sep–Oct.
Habitat: Prairies, woodland borders, dry sandy to mesic wet habitats, sunny to semishaded, waste places, roadsides
Elevation: 10–300 m
