Racemes: bracts glabrous. Flowers: calyx glabrous. 2n = 16.

Phenology: Flowering Jun–Aug.
Habitat: Arctic, grassy slopes, moist areas, upland tundras, rocky alpine tundras, stream banks.
Elevation: 0–1000 m.

Discussion

In addition to its glabrous inflorescence, E. Hultén (1968) contrasted the shorter subtending floral bracts in the upper part of the inflorescence of subsp. langsdorffii to the longer, more prominent bracts of subsp. arctica. While some specimens can be clearly distinguished using bract size, many others cannot.
