Stems ascending to erect, 6–28 cm, retrorsely hairy or puberulent. Leaves glabrate or scabrous, 6–25 × 0.5–1.5 mm; blade linear, rarely oblanceolate. 2n = 16.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jul(–Aug).
Habitat: Pinyon-juniper woodlands, ponderosa pine forests.
Elevation: 1700–3400 m.

Discussion

Variety glabrescens is weakly differentiated from var. crandallii. Variety glabrescens is documented in Archuleta, Conejos, Custer, Delta, Dolores, Fremont, La Plata, Mineral, Montezuma, and Saguache counties, Colorado, and Rio Arriba and Taos counties, New Mexico.
