Molecular phylogenetic analyses show that Sebastiania in the broad sense is polyphyletic and indicate a close relationship of <i>Pleradenophora</i> with a West Indian clade containing Bonania A. Richard, Grimmeodendron Urban, and <i>Hippomane</i> (K. Wurdack et al. 2005).</p>
