Rollins (1993) in <i>Halimolobos</i>, the two genera are not closely related. <i>Sandbergia</i> is most closely related to <i>Boechera</i>, whereas <i>Halimolobos</i> is sister to Mancoa and Sphaerocardamum Schauer in the tribe Halimolobeae.
