|discussion=<p><i>Ptychostomum pallescens</i> is a common widespread boreal-temperate species favoring wet soil in wetlands, along streams, and in springs. The costal awns are pigmented. <i>Ptychostomum creberrimum</i> is similar, but has smaller spores, synoicous sexual condition, and ovate segment perforations.</p>
