A. J. Scott (1978) circumscribed <i>Bassia</i> in a very broad sense, including <i>Kochia</i> and some other genera. Only one section of <i>Kochia</i> is somewhat transitional towards <i>Bassia</i> (see comments in the treatment of <i>Kochia</i>).
