|discussion=<p><i>Tortula mucronifolia</i> is quite close to <i>T. subulata</i>, differing largely in the clear medial laminal cells of the former, which are not or rarely papillose, and the marginal border less strongly developed or absent. Where their ranges overlap, intermediates may be found.</p>
