Plants gregarious to widely spaced, obvious only when sporophytes present on persistent protonema.
Phenology: Capsules mature spring.
Habitat: Moist silty to fine sandy banks of somewhat shaded sites
Elevation: low to moderate elevations (5-1500 m)
