Flowers: staminode 10–12 × (0.2–)0.5–1 mm, distal 4–7 mm densely villous, hairs to 1.5 mm. 2n = 16.
Phenology: Flowering May–Jul(–Aug).
Habitat: Sandy to gravelly sagebrush shrubland, pinyon-juniper, Gambel oak, ponderosa pine, and bristlecone pine woodlands.
Elevation: 1200–3100 m.
Distribution
Ariz., Nev., Utah.
Discussion
Variety congestus is known from the Uinta Basin of northeastern Utah to the Grand Canyon Plateau of Arizona and to the Calcareous Mountains of east-central Nevada.
