Cauline leaves 10–65 × 4–20 mm, blade elliptic to ovate or lanceolate, base tapered to clasping or cordate-clasping. Flowers: calyx lobes obovate to oblong, 2.5–4.8 × 2–3.2 mm, apex cuspidate to mucronate. 2n = 48.
Phenology: Flowering May–Aug.
Habitat: River benches, mesas, and slopes in oak, pine, or juniper woodlands.
Elevation: 500–2500 m.
Discussion
Variety azureus is known from the Cascade, Klamath, and North Coast ranges, and in the Sierra Nevada from southwestern Oregon (Curry, Jackson, and Josephine counties) south to Fresno County, California.
