Flowers: calyx lobes depressed-ovate to round or ovate, 3.5–5 × 3.2–5 mm; corolla 24–28 mm, glabrous externally.
Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jun.
Habitat: Gravelly washes, canyon floors, creosote shrublands, pinyon-juniper woodlands.
Elevation: 1000–2100 m.
Discussion
Variety fruticiformis is known only from Inyo County. Some specimens from the Last Chance and Panamint ranges have broadly ovate to round calyx lobes and moderately glandular-pubescent corollas internally as in var. fruticiformis, but they also have corollas glandular-pubescent externally as in var. amargosae.
