Herbs, perennial. Stems: basal produced; flowering erect, 15–70 cm, sericeous. Leaves of flowering stems alternate or subopposite; blade linear to narrowly elliptic, 4–15 × 0.3–1.5 mm, apex acute, abaxial surface pilose on midvein and margins, adaxial glabrous. Pedicels 1 per axil, 1–1.8 mm. Flowers: calyx 0.8–1.1 mm, outer sepals usually ± equaling or longer than, occasionally shorter than, inner. Capsules ellipsoid to obovoid, 1.6–1.9 × 0.9–1.1 mm, longer than calyx, with persistent stigma. Seeds 1(–2).


Phenology: Flowering summer; fruiting fall.
Habitat: Sandhills, pine-oak woodlands, flatwoods, dry, open sites
Elevation: 10–100 m
