Leaf blades hairy. Flowers: sepals red; stamens 0.9–1 times as long as petals.


Phenology: Flowering Dec–Mar.
Habitat: Chaparral, woodlands
Elevation: 100-1700 m

Discussion

Variety hesperium occurs in the Transverse and Peninsular ranges and the San Gabriel Mountains.
