Annuals, biennials, or short-lived perennials. Stems 1+, ascending to erect, frequently canescent, stipitate-glandular; branches divaricate to ascending. Mid and distal leaf blades ovate, oblong, or obovate (lengths 1.5–4 times widths). Peduncles equaling or longer than involucres. Involucres broadly turbinate to campanulate, 6–10 mm. Phyllaries in 3–6 series, reflexed, apices often canescent, stipitate-glandular. Ray florets pistillate, fertile. Cypselae sparsely to moderately appressed-hairy. 2n = 8.
Phenology: Flowering Jun–Sep.
Habitat: Creosote bush scrublands, pinyon-juniper woodlands
Elevation: 500–2500 m
