Plants mostly 7–15+ cm (perennating bases ± erect, internodes not winged). Leaves all or mostly opposite (distal sometimes alternate); blades ± deltate to rhombic, 3–8+ × 2–5+ cm, bases ± cuneate, margins raggedly toothed, apices obtuse to acute, faces strigoso-sericeous. Heads borne singly or 2–3 together. Involucres shallowly bowl-shaped, 15–25+ mm diam. Phyllaries 28–35+ in 2–3 series, ± erect, linear to lanceolate, 8–12+ mm. Ray florets 12–16+; laminae 10–12+ mm. Disc florets 80–150+; corollas yellow to orange. Cypselae blackish, ± elliptic, 6.5–8 mm, faces ± strigillose; pappi 0.5–1+ mm. 2n = 68.
Phenology: Flowering May(–Oct).
Habitat: Silty flats, roadsides, desert scrub
Elevation: 1000–2000 m
Distribution
N.Mex., Tex., Mexico (Coahuila).
