Leaves without prominent 1-directional orientation; blades (filiform or linear to oblanceolate) 20–40(–50) × 1–5(–10) mm, apices usually rounded, faces sparsely strigose to hirsuto-strigose. Phyllaries 0.5–0.8 mm wide, margins usually thick or only with narrow scarious rims, midnerves usually not distinct and orange-resinous, abaxial faces glabrate to sparsely strigose, sometimes sparsely, obscurely glandular; inner phyllaries 3.2–4.5 mm. Ray florets 15–49; corollas 6–10 mm. Disc corollas 3.5–4(–5) mm. 2n = 18.


Phenology: Flowering May–Aug(–Sep).
Habitat: Dry, open, rocky or grassy slopes, chaparral, oak to pine or pine-fir woodlands
Elevation: (50–)300–2300(–2900) m
