Shrubs or trees, unarmed; bud scales present. Leaves persistent, usually opposite or subopposite, rarely alternate, not borne on short shoots; blade not gland-dotted; pinnately veined, secondary veins arching near margins, higher order veins not forming adaxially raised reticulum. Inflorescences axillary, within foliage, umbels; peduncles and pedicels not fleshy in fruit. Pedicels present. Flowers bisexual; hypanthium very shallowly cupulate, 3–4 mm wide; sepals 5, spreading, greenish yellow, triangular to triangular-ovate, crested adaxially; petals 0; nectary fleshy, filling hypanthium, margin pentagonal, decagonal, or weakly subcrenulate; stamens 5; ovary superior, 2-locular; style 1. Fruits drupes, 5–8[–12] mm; stone 1, indehiscent.
Distribution
Fla., s Mexico, West Indies, Central America (s to Costa Rica).
