Basal leaves (1–)3-nerved, linear to narrowly spatulate, 2–10 mm. Heads 10–110+ in corymbiform arrays. Involucres: staminate 4–5.5 mm; pistillate 5–6.5 mm. Phyllaries proximally golden brown, distally white. Corollas: staminate 3–4 mm; pistillate 2.5–4 mm. Cypselae 1–2 mm, sparingly papillate; pappi: staminate 3–4.5 mm; pistillate 3–4 mm.


Phenology: Flowering summer.
Habitat: Semidry meadows and drainages, lower montane, ponderosa pine zone
Elevation: 900–3200 m

Discussion

Subspecies luzuloides is characterized by non-stoloniferous habit and relatively small heads in corymbiform arrays.
