Plants medium-sized or rarely large. Stem leaves erect-spreading to subimbricate, ovate or broadly ovate, abruptly or gradually narrowed to apex, ± falcate; apex acuminate or short-acuminate, not cucullate.


Habitat: Intermediately mineral-rich to mineral-rich and usually nutrient-poor habitats, fens, irrigated rock, relatively dry fens such as hummocks, submerged
Elevation: low to high elevations

Loeskypnum badium is easily recognizable in the field by the often golden brown or coppery brown color (often blackish in older parts), normally weakly branched shoots, and strongly concave and usually broad, falcate leaves with relatively short-acuminate apices. The species is separated from L. wickesiae by its more or less falcate, acuminate or short-acuminate leaves.
