Plants small to medium-sized. Stems pinnate. Stem and branch leaves with shape similar, size often noticeably differentiated; margins serrulate; ecostate or costa double, short; medial and distal laminal cells oblong-rhomboidal. Sexual condition phyllodioicous. Seta orangish red, fading to yellow with age. Capsule with operculum obliquely conic-rostrate.

Distribution

North America, West Indies (Cuba), e Asia.

Discussion

Species ca. 6 (1 in the flora).

Recent molecular evidence suggests that Schwetschkeopsis might be more closely allied to members of Anomodontaceae than Myriniaceae (W. R. Buck and B. Goffinet 2000).
