Leaf blades spatulate to orbiculate, margins entire, sometimes serrulate, apex rounded to obtuse. Flowers: corolla lavender or bluish lavender, violet, or purple, 20–36 mm, moderately white-villous internally abaxially. 2n = 16.


Phenology: Flowering May.
Habitat: Rock outcrops, talus slopes.
Elevation: 900–3700 m.

Distribution

B.C., Calif., Nev., Oreg., Wash.

Discussion

The ranges of var. davidsonii and var. menziesii overlap throughout much of British Columbia and Washington. Variety davidsonii hybridizes with var. menziesii, and with Penstemon cardwellii, P. fruticosus, P. newberryi, and P. rupicola.
