Herbs to 7.5 dm; with ligneous taproot or slender rhizome. Stems glabrous. Leaves mostly palmately (3–)5–7-foliolate; stip­ules linear or linear-lanceolate, 2–5 mm; petiole 10–40 mm; leaflet blades linear, 20–70 × 0.5–3.5 mm, surfaces glandular-punctate, glabrous or glabrate. Peduncles 3–10 cm. Inflorescences ellipsoid, 1–6 cm. Flowers 5–7 mm; calyx 2–3 mm, glandular-punctate, glabrous or sparsely pubescent; corolla purplish blue, banner rounded. Legumes 9–11 × 5–6 mm, glandular-punctate, rugose. Seeds reniform, 5–7 mm.


Phenology: Flowering May–Aug.
Habitat: Pine-oak forests, sandy soils.
Elevation: 0–100 m.

Discussion

Orbexilum lupinellus has been treated as the sole member of Rhytidomene; J. W. Grimes (1990) and D. Isely (1998) included it in Orbexilum.
