Herbs usually annual, sometimes biennial or short-lived perennial. Legumes curved, tip twisted in small coil, prickleless, coil edges not paper-thin, nutletlike. Seeds smooth; radicle 1/2–2/3 seed length. Cotyledons epulvinate.

Distribution

Introduced; Mexico, Europe, Asia, n Africa, introduced also world­wide in temperate and tropical regions.
